Launched in June, 2013, The CLEMMONS FREE PRESS is a fiercely independent newspaper dedicated to seeking the truth through uncompromising journalism.
The CLEMMONS FREE PRESS and its sister publication, The GREENSBORO FREE PRESS, are fiercely independent newspapers dedicated to seeking the truth through uncompromising journalism. We remain committed to the original free press in a free society – as a light, exposing corruption, fraud, waste and abuse of power whenever and wherever it is found. We also seek to provide free and open debate about the great moral and political challenges facing central North Carolina and beyond, by providing an unbiased forum for our readers. Further, we believe that reading a newspaper should be an entertaining experience as well as an educational journey.
They are the brainchild of Clemmons, NC resident, Rick Baker, who has owned and published many newspapers in his career, but abandoned print media ten years ago to pursue the Senior Golf tour. He pursued it, but sucked at it and now just enjoys playing the game.
Baker and his wife Becky started spending time in Clemmons, NC in January of 2012. In the past year, he has hosted his number one talk radio show on WSIC AM1400 in Statesville, where he replaced The Sean Hannity Show and quickly tripled the listenership during is slot, Monday-Friday, 3-6pm. He ended his show to complete his third book, “No Goodbyes: The Mysterious Disappearance of the McStay Family.”
“The response to this book has been pretty toxic on the Internet with a number of self-proclaimed sleuths giving me grief. These Internet trolls show that the only ones who truly have free speech in America today are those who post as ‘anonymous’ on the Internet,” says Baker. You can follow this case (and the trolls) on his blog at rickgbaker.blogspot.com
Baker relaunched his print media career in Central NC because he had finally had enough of the agenda-reporting by the local newspapers.
“I am so weary of reporters and editors trying to cram their agenda down our throats. In fact, I am so tired of it that I decided to launch another of my famous (or infamous) Free Press newspapers to show the communities here how a newspaper is supposed to act,” said Baker.
The print edition of The CLEMMONS Free Press will be available in over 100 locations in Clemmons and Winston-Salem.
